The Missionaries Will Teach...
The scriptures are the source of official and binding doctrine of the
Church. They were written by prophets, and contain the revelations the
revelations from God and the history of God's dealing with his people.
We show our faith in Jesus Christ by diligently studying, believing, and
obeying the teachings of the scriptures. We feast upon the scriptures
to not only learn the truth about Jesus Christ and his gospel, but also to
open the doors of personal revelation regarding who we really are, what we
should do, and what we should become. The approved scriptures are
The Holy Bible, The Book of Mormon, The Doctrine and Covenants, and
The Pearl of Great Price. We should study these holy books every day.
Some Additional Thoughts...
The last canonized revelation that the prophet Joseph Smith received is
now known as
Section 132 of The Doctrine and Covenants. I suggest you
carefully read this section and ponder it before you get baptized.
Conscientiously read the whole thing and sincerely consider the question of
whether or not you believe that Jesus Christ really said these words to
Joseph Smith. Ask yourself if you really want to align yourself with a
church that teaches these things.
Benjamin Franklin once had a church sermon
that was a lot like the fourth missionary lesson. Think about whether
or not the principles in this lesson are designed to make you a good human
being, or merely a good Mormon.
